“We’re not normally very photogenic people but somehow Clive managed to make us look good with his technique of capturing all those candid shots… it was really enjoyable going through the photos and seeing everyone enjoying the wedding.”
That comment from Despina and Matt sums up exactly why I love working the way I do. Candid, relaxed, real moments — that’s what it’s all about. And what made their day even more special was that they took the time for a pre-wedding shoot, which helped everything click into place long before the big day arrived.
From Camera Shy to Camera-Ready
When we first chatted, they admitted they weren’t the most comfortable in front of a camera — which is something I hear often. So they opted for a pre-wedding shoot, and it made all the difference. It gave them a feel for how I work: quietly, without fuss, gently capturing what naturally unfolds. No awkward posing, no spotlight — just a peaceful walk, and a bit of laughter. By the time their wedding day rolled around, they felt calm, confident, and ready to soak it all in.
Wedding Morning: Calm, Personal, Joyful
The day began in two different corners of the venue. Despina was in the bridal suite across the courtyard, enjoying a calm and joyful build-up with her family. No nerves — just plenty of laughter and that warm, excited energy that’s a dream to photograph.
Meanwhile, over in the wedding breakfast room, Matt and his family were putting the finishing touches in place. One lovely moment I caught was Matt gifting his groomsmen Japanese-style rice bowls — a nod to the couple’s upcoming move to Japan, where Matt works. A small gesture, but full of meaning.
Sunshine, Stefana & Greek Blessings
The ceremony took place outdoors (once again, the weather was on our side!) and everything looked beautiful. Huge thanks to Allie, Mark, and the whole team at the venue for keeping things running seamlessly — they really do create the perfect setting every time.
After the civil ceremony, there was a special moment to honour Despina’s Greek heritage: a traditional blessing, complete with handmade stefana (wedding crowns) crafted by the children. A beautiful cultural touch, and a joy to document.
Golden Hour & Dancefloor Magic
As evening rolled in, I took Despina and Matt for a short stroll to a nearby field during golden hour. This wasn’t about posing — just a quiet breather, a chance to cool off and reconnect. That soft light, plus a few peaceful minutes away from the buzz, made for some of my favourite images of the day.
Then it was back to the party — and what a party it was! The dancefloor was packed, full of energy and laughter, with guests throwing shapes (and a few daring powerslides!) well into the night.

Planning a Wedding But Hate Posing?
If you’re like Despina and Matt — excited for your day but not thrilled at the idea of being in front of the camera — a pre-wedding shoot might be just the thing. It’s a relaxed, pressure-free way to get used to the camera and see how natural and easy wedding photography can feel.
If that sounds like your kind of vibe, let’s have a chat or secure your date today. I’d love to help tell your story — naturally.
