A First Visit to The Carriage Hall

This was my first time photographing a wedding at The Carriage Hall, and what a treat it turned out to be! When Alex and Jenni first got in touch, they mentioned, “After searching around online, my fiancée and I came across your website and were particularly interested in your story-telling style.”

From that moment, I knew their expectations would align perfectly with my style. And sure enough, the day unfolded beautifully from start to finish.

What Makes The Carriage Hall Unique?

Why is it called The Carriage Hall? This stunning venue was once a Victorian railway station goods shed for Plumtree. Today, it has been beautifully transformed into a charming wedding venue, ideal for both intimate gatherings and grand celebrations. With its rustic brick walls, high ceilings, and breath-taking rural views, it’s a photographer’s dream.

For those looking to stay on-site, The Great Oak Hut provides a cosy and private two-room retreat, tucked away for the perfect end to your day.

It’s no surprise that The Carriage Hall was named the Best Wedding Venue East Midlands for 2024 by the Wedding Industry Awards—a well-deserved recognition!

Preparing for Alex and Jenni’s Big Day

Their wedding day started with a visit to The Carriage Hall to capture the venue preparations and get a proper feel for the space. As this was my first time at the venue, I used this opportunity to explore its layout and observe the natural lighting.

Rather than visiting on a different day, I prefer arriving early on the wedding day itself. This way, I can assess the real conditions—whether it’s sunny, cloudy, or somewhere in between—and plan accordingly for group photos, ensuring nobody is squinting into the sun and the backgrounds work beautifully.

The venue’s charming, rustic, yet contemporary features provided endless inspiration, from the textured brick walls to the open outdoor spaces.

Capturing the Story of the Day

After documenting the venue, I headed over to where Jenni was getting ready. My approach is always natural and non-intrusive, capturing candid moments as they unfold—just as Alex and Jenni had envisioned.

Next, I caught up with Alex as he put the finishing touches on the venue and waited nervously for Jenni’s arrival. From there, it was full-on storytelling, capturing every meaningful glance, heartfelt exchange, and joyous moment.

One highlight I won’t forget? Jenni’s dad absolutely lighting up the dance floor during their father-daughter dance. It was energetic, fun, and a brilliant moment to document!
