Emme and Jasper’s wedding brought together family and friends from Britain, Belgium and further afield for a relaxed celebration shaped by the people closest to them.
Their relationship had already crossed countries, survived long periods apart and grown stronger through some intense chapters of life together. Their wedding felt less like a formal production and more like a gathering of everyone who had helped shape their story.
Their day was relaxed, thoughtful and full of the relationships that mattered most to them.
A Personal Wedding Ceremony
Their wedding celebration took place in the Herefordshire countryside, surrounded by friends and family who had travelled from different countries to be there.
The ceremony was personal and thoughtful, with readings and references exploring love, individuality and the importance of growing alongside one another.
Emme’s mother, Rowan, spoke warmly about her daughter’s love of languages, the life she had created abroad and the confidence and resilience she had developed alongside Jasper.
She also welcomed Jasper into the family as a son.
Vows About Home and Everyday Life
Emme and Jasper wrote their own vows.
They remembered their first picnic, the challenges of long distance and the handwritten note Jasper found after Emme left, promising she would be back soon.
Their promises centred on trust, encouragement and continuing to build a life together.
They spoke about listening to one another, debating the smallest details over breakfast and making time for the excited stories that become several-minute monologues.
There was even a promise to continue making an English breakfast every weekend.
Beneath the humour was a simple idea: they had become home for one another.
A Relaxed Afternoon With Family and Friends
After the ceremony, everyone gathered outside for confetti and a photograph of the whole wedding party.
We kept the family photographs simple and organised before taking a short walk for a few relaxed portraits of Emme and Jasper together.
There was no need for a lengthy photoshoot. They could walk, talk and enjoy a little time together while I photographed them naturally.
That unobtrusive way of working is central to my documentary approach to wedding photography.
Speeches Full of Friendship
The speeches reflected just how important family and friendship are to them both.
Friends spoke about relationships stretching back through school, university and different stages of adult life. Family members described how naturally Emme and Jasper support one another and how much they seem to thrive in each other’s company.
Their marriage had not simply joined two people. It had brought together families, friendship groups, cultures and shared histories.
Meaningful International Details
Even Emme’s wedding outfit reflected the international nature of their story.
The top had been made in Vietnam, while the lace elements were created in Devon.
Their much-loved dog, Pippa, also forms part of the home they have created together. Originally from Ukraine, she quickly became part of their family.
From Sheffield to Brussels
Emme and Jasper first met for a picnic in Endcliffe Park in Sheffield on 15 July 2018.
What might have been a short first date turned into an eight-hour conversation. They stayed until it became too cold to remain outside.
That afternoon began a relationship spanning England, France and Belgium.
After time apart and repeated goodbyes, they eventually lived together in a small studio during the early months of Covid. Rather than placing strain on their relationship, the experience seems to have confirmed how well they worked together.
They later made their home in Brussels.
Years after their first date, Jasper returned to the same park and asked Emme to marry him.
She said yes.
The Moments That Mattered
Some of my favourite photographs came from the quieter moments between the planned parts of the day.
The expressions during the readings.
The laughter during the vows.
Friends reconnecting after travelling from abroad.
Family reactions during the speeches.
And the sudden burst of energy as the confetti filled the air.
There were also plenty of less formal moments: guests relaxing in the sunshine, conversations continuing over drinks and a particularly dramatic collapse during the garden games.
Those photographs matter because they do more than show how the wedding looked.
They show how it felt.

Planning a Wedding That Feels Like You?
Your wedding does not need to feel like a photoshoot.
My approach is centred on quietly documenting the people, interactions and fleeting moments that make the day personal. We can still include the family photographs that matter, but I keep them organised and efficient so you can return to enjoying your guests.
